At 2.52 p.m. one unit from the Sockburn station was called to 84 Riccarton road, the property of A. S. Westgarth, of 379 Papanui road. Hot ashes being removed from a copper and placed in buckets had ignited the wooden floor. The fire was extinguished with minor damage to the flooring.

At 2 53 p.m. one unit from the Central station extinguished an oven fire at 27 Main South road, the property of George Fowke. Fat which had overheated in a pan on a gas stove caused a fire at 213 Colombo street, the property of Donald Eric Currie.
