RACING ORARI STABLEMATES FOR WAIMATE CUP
Phil’s Choice and Persuasive. which won the totalisator double for P. H. C. Stock's Orari stable at Ashburton last week, will be rival candidates in the Waimate Cup on Saturday. Compensate will also run in the Cup. so that the Stock stable will be strongly represented.
The stable apprentice, L. D. Stock, will ride Compensate, the Waimate Cup top weight with 9-11.
R. J. Skelton will ride Phil's Choice, and the Riccarton jockey, G. W. Mein, has been engaged for Persuasive. Provisional plans for ‘nree members of Stock's team to race at Ellerslie have been abandoned. Compensate was given 9-5 in the Cornwall Handicap, and his connexions decided against taking him north to run under that weight After Waimate Compensate will race at the Dunedin winter meeting. So will the jumpers Arctic Sun and Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon Bonaparte lost a winning chance in the steeplechase at the Otaki meeting at Trentham last month when he slipped going into the last fence.
He stifled himself in his fall, and has missed some work, but it has not been a serious setback.
Arctic Sun, runner-up in the hurdles and the steeplechase at Ashburton last week, is now being prepared for the Otago Steeplechase, a race he won last year.
