The stable apprentice, L. D. Stock, will ride Compensate, the Waimate Cup top weight with 9-11.

R. J. Skelton will ride Phil's Choice, and the Riccarton jockey, G. W. Mein, has been engaged for Persuasive. Provisional plans for ‘nree members of Stock's team to race at Ellerslie have been abandoned. So will the jumpers Arctic Sun and Napoleon Bonaparte. Arctic Sun, runner-up in the hurdles and the steeplechase at Ashburton last week, is now being prepared for the Otago Steeplechase, a race he won last year.
