MENTAL HEALTH SEMINAR

Adult Education Programme c

As a contribution to World Mental Health Year, the Adult Education Department of the University of Canterbury is organising a seminar on mental health in Christchurch for Queen’s Birthday week-end (June 3 to 5). The principal speakers will be Dr. Harold Bourne, acting head of the psychiatric department of the University of Otagp. and Dr. J. H Robb, acting head of the school of social science at Victoria University of Wellington.

On the Saturday Dr. Bourne will speak on "prevention of mental illhealth” and Dr. Robb on “community attitudes to mental health and their modification.”

The Canterbury Association for Mental Health will convene a meeting on the Sunday afternoon to consider the establishment of a national association for mental health. Those attending the seminar have been invited as observers. There will be a special function in the evening. A panel discussion on “the practical politics of enlightening the public and politi-i cians on mental health, the! law on mental health, and mental health services’* will be held on the Monday afternoon. Those taking part will be Professor H R. Gray (dean of the Canterbury University faculty of law and, preaident of the Canterbury' Association for Mental Health), Dr. Bourne and Dr. Robb.

Members of the public may enrol for the seminar for a fee of 10s.
