U.K. BUTTER IMPORTS

6560-ton Rise Last Quarter

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. May 18. Butter imports by Britain in the first quarter of 1961 totalled 6560 tons more than in the same period of 1960. This is shown in the Board of Trade’s latest figures. The increase represents about one week's consumption. France is continuing to send about 100 tons of butter a week to Britain and recently reduced her price to about 248 s per cwt landed—or just below the New Zea. land price of 2505. Supplies from Argentina have stopped for the time being, but Poland, which has an agreement to send Britain 20,000 tons of butter a year, re. cently has been averaging only about 230 tons a week and will be sending 450 tons next week.

The price of Polish butter is 246 s per cwt landed, Austrian is 2505, Eire 252 s 6d. Finnish 2655, Norwegian 2655, the Netherlands 283 s and Danish 3065.
