Charges Of False Declarations

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 19 Fines amounting to £925 were imposed on British Products, Ltd., by Mr R. M. Grant, S.M.. in the Auckland Magistrate's Court yesterday. The company pleaded guilty to 37 charges of making a declaration under the Customs Act erroneous as to the C.I.F. value (cost of goods as landed in New Zealand in New Zealand currency) of the goods . concerned.

The company was fined £25 on each charge.

A test case on one other charge which was denied by the company was heard last November, a conviction entered and an appeal against it taken to the Supreme Court. A judgment upholding the conviction was delivered.

Another company. W. and K. McLean. Ltd., was fined a total of £75 when it nleaded guilty to three similar charges.
