FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A weak ridge of high pressure lies across the North Island. A disturbed westerly airstream covers the South Island. Forecast:— Marlborough Sounds.—Fresh to strong northwest winds decreasing and possibly turning southerly for- a time during the morning; a few showers are possible with the southerly; otherwise partly cloudy with moderate temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy, with moderate temperatures. Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds, south-westerlies predominating near the coast; a few isolated coastal showers at first but otherwise partly cloudy with cool to moderate temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy. Buller and Westland.—Moderate west to southwest winds; areas of rain at first but improving from the south to variable skies with occasional showers and fair intervals; temperatures moderate. Outlook: occasional showers.
