ATHLETICS Mr A. Lydiard To Manage Athletes On Tour

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, May 18. Mr Arthur Lydiard has reversed his decision not to accept the appointment of team manager to the four New Zealand athletes at the second World Games in Helsinki in July. Three of the athletes will be New Zealand’s medal winners at the Rome Olympics, M. G. Halberg, P. G. Snell, and A. C. Magee. The fourth member has yet to be named by the national selectors. Mr Lydiard today expressed gratitude to New Zealand Newspapers. Ltd., for making it possible for him to accept managership of the team by solving his immediate personal difficulties. 880 Yards Record Snell, the Olympic 800 metres winner, may break

the world 880 yards record when he competes in international meetings in Europe in July, Mr Lydiard predicted. “Snell is completely free of his leg troubles now, and in magnificent condition,” said Mr Lydiard. “With another month’s conditioning, he should be in tremendous form.”
