TRAFFIC STAFF PRAISED

Inquiry On Child Welfare

Two City Council traffic officers. Senior Patrol Officer L. J. ' Wilson and Traffic Officer I. McLaughlin, have been thanked by Mr A. P. Blair, S.M. and the Child Welfare Division of the Education Department, for their assistance in a case under the Adoption Act.

In a letter to the council, the Magistrate said he had had to deal with an application under the act involving an inquiry into serious allegations of negligence of a child. The inquiry was “sparked off" by the two officers w’ho had observed an incident on the street “I would like to say how impressed I was by their intelligent handling of an awkward situation with tact and good sense,” the Magistrate said. "As a consequence, the Child Welfare Division was brought into the picture, and though he will never know about it, one small boy has cause to be grateful for the officers' intervention.”

The Child Welfare Division wrote that it was convinced that the officers’ action was in the best interests of the infant and that their evidence was most timely.
