SHIP STILL AGROUND

Picton Now On South Bank

The 150-ton coastal vessel Picton is still aground near the mouth of the Waimakariri river. The vessel has been aground since last Friday. On Tuesday evening two bulldozers, pulling on lines run out to the bank, moved the vessel about 50 yards from the north bank. Further attempts were made at high tide yesterday morning, but the wire rope to one bank parted, and the Picton went aground on the south side of the channel.

Another attempt last evening with bulldozers and fines also failed when the lines parted. It is expected that a further attempt will be made at high tide this evening. It is unlikely any attempt will be made at high tide this morning, as the Toa and the Taupata are to leave the port of KaiapoL
