WHIP HAND WINS
Cost TOOOgns As Yearling
Whip Hand, which cost Mr Ezra Norton 4000 gns at the national sales in 1958, was the lone New Zealand-bred winner at Warwick Farm, Sydney. last Saturday. Whip Hand, a bay gelding by Faux Tirage from Golden Chime (by Golden Souvenir — Kathbe’la) has now won two races in 18 months, but has been disappointing in several others.
He was ridden closer to the lead than usual last Saturday and won soundly by a length and a half.
Another New' Zealand-bred horse was third in Whip Hand's race. This was Count More, a five-year-old gelding by Count Rendered from Baltimore.
New Zealand-owned gallopers Fils d’Or and Vitapointe, were the minor place-getters in the May Handicap, one of the major races at Warwick Farm. Fils d’Or tried to lead for the last mile, but Sanfern beat him by a length and a quarter. Mr G. S. Walton's Golden Souvenir gelding started at 10 to 1.
Mr H. V. Bourne’s hardy King’s Pal mare Vitapointe, was one of the fastest-finish-ers in the race. There were five other runners, ,and three of them were New Zealand-bred. They were Royal Jester. Manchu, and Bronx.
Recently in Sydney New Zealand-bred horses made up the complete field for a middle-distance handicap race.
