Drainage
Sir.—l wonder what next the National Party Government is going to force on the people of New Zealand. Now they have told the Drainage Board to take no further commitments. They themselves bought flats for over £30.000 and a house for £ 12.000. What next? Interest rates are up: Post Office charges are to be increased. Electricity charges go up very shortly. Why not give our Drainage Board a chance for the £3.000.000 when the Dairy Board did not want it. so that the residents in the Christchurch Drainage Board area could enjoy a decent sanitation service? Yours, etc.
T. H. BITMEAD May 8. 1961.
Sir.—After waiting years for the sewer. Hoon-Hay and other districts which had a reasonable chance of gett-ng it shortly must now wait longer. ' Why? Because
there is no money available: the Goverment has it all. It forced the dairy farmers to take £3 milli ti they didn’t want Why didn't they offer
it to the drainage board, which did? They are spending £1 million a year. That £3 million would have met the board’s loan needs for three years and we could all have the sewer. People won't forget in 1963—Yours, etc, DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. May 8. 1961.
