Rugby League APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES
Canterbury Team For Auckland
The Canterbury Rugby League received last evening a list of referees appointed for representative games by the New Zealand Rugby League's council. They are:— Canterbury v. Auckland, at Auckland, next Saturday: Mr R Avery (Waikato). West Coast v. Auckland, at Auckland, May 27: Mr P, Yaxley (Christchurch). West Coast v. Canterbury, Christchurch, June 5: Mr J. Percival (Auckland).
The following Canterbury team to play Auckland at Auckland next Saturday, was approved by the meeting:— A. Smith, A. Amer. R. Turton, K. Harding, 3. Bond. R. Pounsford, W. Godfrey. M. Cooke, R. McLean, M. MohU E. Tavendale, K. Pearce. J. Fisher, N. Diggs, R. Carey. D. Candick
The manager will be Mr L. Huston, and the coach Mr E. Butts. Mr L. Huston, a member of the board of control, was nominated for the position of manager of the New Zealand team to tour England and France this year. Mr W, Telford (Auckland) was nominated as coach.
Australian Captain Not Available (N Z.P.A -Reuter—Copi/r<oht> SYDNEY, May 8. The Australian rugby league team captain, K. Barnes, said today that he would be unavailable for selection to tour New Zealand next month. The decision was for family and business reasons.
The Australian touring team will be selected on June 12. and will leave by plane on June 16, for New Zealand.
