NO INVITATION TO CELEBRATION
Technical Board Member’s Concern
Concern that no invitation to the Papanui High School twenty - fifth anniversary celebrations was given to the board of managers of Christchurch Technical College was expressed by the chairman of the board (Mr R. Jones) at its meeting last evening.
To Mr F. H. Dephoff, the principal (Mr D. W. Lyall) had earlier replied that he had been invited to. and attended, the opening celebrations. He said that three of the speakers had referred to the origin of Papanui High School and its connexion with the Technical College “I am thoroughly disgusted with the attitude of the Papanui High School in not inviting this board,’’ said Mr Jones.
Mr Lyall said that he was sure it was a pure oversight The Invitations would come from the former pupils and they might not be aware of the school's connexion with the college. “It is not a bit of good saying that it was an oversight—an overslight is a better way of putting it,” said Mr Jones.
Several members said that they felt that it was a slip and not meant as an affront
“I think we might have made an oversight ourselves,” said Ms Lyall. “A few years ago when we had our celebrations I think we forgot to invite the Papanui hoard ”,
