Four Million Words

Before it reports to the Minister of Education in April, the Commission on Education at present in Auckland will have sifted through about four million words of evidence and background material. This will consist of about two million words of verbatim evidence, one million words of wri'ten submissions, and one million words of background material. The commission began its hearings on May 16, 1960 Since then, it has travelled from within about 20 miles of the northernmost point of New Zealand, the Te Kao Maori District High School, to Invercargill. The commission will end its Auckland hearings on Friday.—(P.A )
