AUSTRALIAN CABINET

Military Plans For Laos (NZJ’-A. -Reuter—Copyright) CANBERRA. May 1. The Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) presided over a special five-hour Cabinet meeting today on the serious situation in Laos. . No announcement was made of any decisions taken by Cabinet although the discussions went on throughout the day. Diplomatic observers said, however, that preliminaryplanning had been made for Australian troops to take part in armed intervention in Laos if necessary.

Service chiefs headed by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. Vice-Admiral Sir Roy Dowling. participated in the discussions. It was reported that troops from Australia could be flown quickly to any trouble spot by a special airlift of Air Force and civil aircraft if necessary.
