Table Tennis H. P. Holt’s Good Form In Opening Matches
Selwyn, Eagles and University II were winning teams when the first round of the Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s A grade competition was played last evening. This season the A grade is divided into two sections, with the best six teams in the top section. Losing teams in this section were Wallabies I. Wallabies II and University I. The defeat of University I by the University II team was a surprise. H. P. Holt was in very fine form for the winning side, winning his three singles matches. Holt showed more consistency on both attack and defence, and if he can maintain this form he will be a threat to all the leading players. Mrs J. Shadbolt was in very good form for Eagles in that side's defeat of Wallabies 11. Mrs Shadbolt beat two provincially - ranked men players in N. B. Radford (fourth) and M. A. Cox (seventh) in long matches. J. Annstrong was untroubled to win his matches with ease. Sel./yn. seeking its eighth successive win. was impressive in beating Wallabies I without the loss of a game.
