KILLED BY PRIEST
Church Rectory Burglar (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) DENVER (Colorado), April 3. A Roman Catholic priest last night shot a man dead during an attempted burlary at a North Denver Catholic Church Rectory, police said today. They said the priest, Monsignor Delisle Lemieux, surprised two men as they searched drawers in the dining room of the rectory of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. • The dead man was Richard Eugene Sanders, aged 26, who police said was a convicted burglar and narcotics laws violator. The Associated Press said the priest was alone in the rectory when he heard noises coming from the dining room. Armed with a 12 gauge shotgun, he entered the room, switched on the light and surprised the two men. He later told police that he was holding the men at bay when they made an attempt to rush him.
The priest fired the shotgun, hitting Sanders. The other man escaped. Sanders later died in the operating room at a Denver general hospital.
