ASSAULT IN CAFE
Seaman Fined At Lyttelton When Donald James Mowatt aged 22. a member of the crew of an inter-Colonial vessel, and two companions, all under the influence of liquor, were asked to cease using obscene language in Revell's cafe, Norwich quay. Lyttelton, late on Sunday evening, Mowatt assaulted Alfred Alexander Haywood at an adjoining table and damaged his false teeth. This was said when Mowatt appeared at the Magistrate's Court at Lyttelton before Messrs J. B. Collett and J. Morse, Justices of the Peace. Mowatt, who pleaded guilty, was fined £2O. in default 14 days' imprisonment, on the assault charge, half of the sum to go toward restitution of Haywood's teeth. In addition he was fined £2 for wilful damage to crockery and furniture valued at £4, the property of Joan Violet Maschek. He was ordered to make restitution for this damage, in default six days’ imprisonment.
