SKOGLUND CUP CONTEST

Burnside High School Wins Burnside High School became first holder of the Skoglund Cup for 1961 by beating Aranui High School in an inter-school sports fixture. The cup was presented for competition to summer and winter sports between the two schools by the former Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund) last year. A further round of the competition will be held during the winter term. Games were played in cricket, tennis and softball. Aranui won the cricket match on an average run-per-wicket basis, scoring 69 and having Burnside seven wickets down for 39. R. Norton (Burnside) took six wickets for 31 runs. Sets were even in the tennis encounter and Burnside won on a count of games, 86 to 78. Burnside completed the series by winning both softball matches. The A team won 29-18 and the B team 18-14.
