ATHLETICS BOYS’INTER-SCHOOL SPORTS BEGUN
R. Reekie < Christchurch Technical College) broke the Intermediate mile record on the first preliminary day of the inter-secondary schools' athletic sports meeting at Rugby Park > esterday. Reekie recorded 4min 37 Osec. which bettered the four-year record of D. Vaughan by 2Ssec Another Technical runner. M. Jones, ran the senior mile in 4min 29 ssec. which was only 2.7 sec outside J. Power’s record. Jones was obviously out to break the record, and he left the field weU behind in his excellent time. Six schools took part in the meeting, the first of three this week. The finals will be held on Saturday. The first two in all events, with the exception of the mile, half mile and 100 yards will go through to the finals. The first three in the latter events wih be eligible.
