KAIAPOI FIRE BRIGADE

New Station Opened

The Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade’s new station in Hilton street was described as having “fire-fighting amenities equal to any other station of comparable size in the Dominion” by the chairman of the Fire Service Council (Mi S. S. Dean) at the official, opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

Together with the firemen’s residence, the new station was built at a cost of £20.500. At the conclusion of the speeches the siren was switched on by Mr Dean, a ribbon in front of the main doors of the building was cut by the wife of the Kaiapoi Fire Board's chairman (Mrs R. M. Counihan) and, in smart turnout, two shiny red tenders “ready for action" were driven out.
