CENTENNIAL OF SCHOOL

Nearly £lOOO From Celebrations

The centennial committee of the Christchurch West High School had contributed almost £lOOO to school projects, sand the chairman of the board of governors (Mr H. R. Peers) when a cheque for £264 was received at the board’s meeting last evening. Mr Peers said that when the centennial committee was formed there had been no idea of making a profit, but because of the enthusiastic response from so many old pupils the committee had been in the happy position of being able to give to the school a large amount of money. Already funds had been used for the swimming baths and for a plaque in the assembly hall. The headmaster (Mr C. A. Noble) said the financial gain from the celebrations was un•doubtedly pleasant, but he wished to emphasise that the centennial celebrations would have been a success even if no money had been made, simply because so many old pupils had attended the various functions.
