NOT TO START
Holy Smoke ■ Sore
Holy Smoke will not race qu the third day of the Inter - Dominion Championship meeting on Wednesday. He got down in the float travelling to the course last Wednesday and injured a muscle.
He was sore after finishing a good sixth in his heat and it was decided to withdraw him from his engagement on Saturday. Holy Smoke would contest a consolation race on the final day of the meeting if he made satisfactory progress this week, said his trainer. F. E. Newfield. If he had to miss a race on the last day because of soreness he would probably be turned out then until next season.
There is every chance that Lookaway will take his place in the third set of heats on Wednesday. He was worked on Saturday morning and pulled up satisfactorily. He fell last Wednesday and was sore afterwards. He will have to finish in a place and in addition earn three points for fastest time to qualify for the final on Saturday.
Furtive will not start in the two-mile heat on Wednesday, but there is every chance that he will be produced on the final day of the meeting in a consolation race. Furtive has shown speed in his heats, but he has not carried it far. He tired to fourth over 10 furlongs on Saturday and his chances of mastering the two miles seem remote.
Kiwi Dillon is also regarded as an unlikley starter on Wednesday. He has raced poorly and is unlikely to master two miles.
His stablemate, Sultana, is still sore and she might not be able to start again at the meeting.
