Race To Be Resailed
The Pleasant Point Yacht Club’s race for the Junior Stacey Trophyhad to be called off on Saturday when the wind dropped and the competing fleet could not make its way to the line against the outgoing tide A group of six boats, mainly catamarans. came towards the line together at the end of the race and held within three hundred vards of each other. In spite of energetic tacking, and taking every advantage, none was able to get closer to the line than about a chain and after a*lot of hard work to get to this point the catamaran. Neptune (R Frost), was taken downstream by . the current The race ran out of the three hours’ time that had been fixed for it and with the boats so close to home the handicapper (Mr C Barrell) allowed another half an hour, but no-one could make tt. D Barrell, in his catamaran. Kitty Hawk, poled himself to the line with a spinnaker boom and others followed paddling and sculling with rudders when the race was declared off. The event will be resailed on £ date yet to be decided.
