The Ward System
Sir,—l advocate return to the ward system of representation on the Christchurch City Council. The present ordeal of selecting 19 names from a list of 40 is beyond the capability of most electors. With the ward system electors would know the candidates and get the representation they want and would be in personal contact. In the event of a by-elec-tion only the ward would be involved instead of the whole of Christchurch, with a saving to ratepayers. Reading a report of City Council business. I noticed that certain councillors were given districts to look after. This supports my views.—Yours, etc., FRED LAWS February 8, 1961.
