Famine In China
Sir.—China has experienced the worst droughts, floods, and typhoons for a century, but thanks to the labour and innovation potential of the communes. working to nationally co-ordinated long-term plans of afforestation, reclamation, irrigation, water conservancy, river control, hydro power and double crop, she has defeated nature's toll of values and prevented what could have been a disaster for the nation. China has trade agreements with 33 countries. Why not a reciprocal trade agreement with New Zealand? A Chinese trade delegation got the cold shoulder from our late Labour Government. Are we always going to remain American imperialists and yes-men through S.E A.T.O.?—Yours, etc. BASIL COCK. February 9, 1961.
