Sir, —It is not often, I believe, given to one person to be able to solve three major civic problems in one stroke. The honour is, however, mine this time and I hasten to share it with the populace of this city, as well as giving you the privilege of printing it first. In sum, my suggestion is to use the spoil from the soon-to-be-excavated road tunnel (which
seems to be causing some embarrassment in various quar ters), to fill in Lake Bryndwi (which has been named a danger spot) and on the newlycreated site erect the town hall No-one can claim to own the site, as it does not yet exist. Thus, by creating a site, money is saved, honours are satisfied, and, the town hall would be in the proximity of what we are informed is the future expansion of Christchurch.—Yours, etc., ARPIE February 7, 1961.
