Estuary Bridge

Sir, —As one of those who suggested this bridge over 33 years ago I would like to endorse the remarks of Mr K. D Mcllraith who says that by opening up New Brighton to Sumner this area could become a Florida of the south, a better recreational area, a major tourist feature and an asset to the city. Now that ihe tunnel ' road will be started in a few weeks, they will be looking for places to dispose of the spoil. What better use could be made of it than to dll in the low-lying land on the sipit and to make it safe from Hooding after building the bridge; also to make a scenic drive up the estuary to South Brighton and another up the foreshore. The remark* of Mr Millburn are very strange and hard to understand.—Yours, etc., S. W HICKMOTT. February 7, 1961.
