Town Hall Site
Sir, —You may be interested to learn that Christchurch is not alone in its endeavours to select the best possible site for the proposed new hall It so happens, that in my native city of Ulm on the border of Bavaria the same problem exists and 10 years has elapsed since a wealthy resident gave to the city free of all costs a beautiful section near the main station. A group of residents raised objections on the grounds that there was insufficient parking space for cars for the new theatre and suggested that a site be purchased near the Danube with perhaps more beautiful surroundings. The climax was reached on New Year's Eve, when a party of young men and women suitably attired for the solemn occasion actually buried all hopes of a new theatre, with a cross erected on the snow covered site—Yours, etc.. MARGRET DEBENHAM. Jan. 19, 1961.
