Languages Congress
Sir,—About 50 delegates crossed the Tasman to attend the Australasian Universities’ Language and Literature Association conference at the University of Canterbury. Some had been in New Zealand before but for many this was their first visit to your country. On behalf of every Aus- * tralian delegate, we should like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the way in which we have been received in this city. We have been deeply impressed by the imagination and thoroughness of Professor Sussex and his colleagues in organising the conference and by the warmth of the welcome not only from the university but also from many others. We should make special mention of the kindness of the people of Akaroa. and of the friendly attention of the staff at Helen Connon HalL We know of no Australian delegate who does not look forward to visiting New Zealand again, and who does not hope that he will have an opportunity to return your hospitality.—Yours, etc., H. MACLEAN R. P. MEIJER HUME DOW January 24, 1961.
