Doncaster At Sydney (N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, January 24. Record nominations were received yesterday for the £lO,OOO Doncaster Handicap, the richest in the history of the race. When entries closed yesterday 156 horses had been nominated for the mile event on Saturday, April 1. eclipsing last year’s record of 122. A total of 101 horses was entered for the Sydney Cup, three more than last year. The Sydney Cup, carrying £15,000 in stakes and a £5OO trophy, will be run over two miles on Monday. April 3. The stage is set for a record Randwick carnival—for the post-war period at least. The increased prize-money has attracted a heavy nomination from New Zealand. Horses still in New Zealand which have been entered for the Doncaster include Ma Cherie, Fountainhead, Second Earl, Torrid, Karina, Shakespeare, Kamikaze, and Rural Loch. Sydney Cup entries lodged in New Zealand are Yeman, Great Sensation, Stipulate, Ma Cherie, Red Eagle, Rural Loch. Blue Lodge, Shangtu, Polo Star. Torrid, and Rustic. Other Dominion horses entered include Ilumquh. Kingdom, Fils d’Or and Oreka. Of the 100 Sydney Cup entries, 44 were bred in New Zealand.
