Surveyors On Haast Road May Be Winners Of £5000

The winning £5OOO prize ticket in the “New Year Gift” art union is probably in the wilds of South Westland and che winner or winners are thought to be Mr Leo Williams and/or his brother, Mr Bernard Williams. The brothers are members of a Ministry of Works survey party pushing ahead with survey work on the ParingaHaast highway. They are at present about 28 miles south of Lake Paringa and can only be reached by radio. They have used the nom-de-plume “Whakapohai River.” the name of a small river near which they are working, on previous art union tickets. The only other possible winner could be a roadman on the lonely track, but he is not known to have bought art union tickets with the winning name.
