CATAMARAN EVENT
Neptune Wins First Squadron Race Canterbury Catamaran Squadron owners conducted a race—the first organised by their recently-formed association—at Charteris Bay on New Year’s Day. The race was a handicap over a course of about five miles, and was sailed in a moderate east wind. The course was predominantly a leading one. The Pleasant Point shearwater craft, Neptune, won the rac# from the scratch mark with a finishing time of 4hr 16min 30sec. Frost was at the helm. Another 16-footer was second. It was R. B. Neale’s Witchcraft ;a local entry. With a 5 per cent, handicap it finished at 4hr 18min. Five minutes behind in third place was G. B. Stanton, in the 13ft boat Repeat, which had been han4 ca PP ed at 15 per cent. Repeat is a Charteris Bay boat. Fourth place went to T. Rolton. an entry from the Estuarv • Rolton sailed Pudy Tat, also one?of the 12ft class, which was har at 20 per cent. He finished, pn corrected time, 10 seconds beh:r|d Hepcat.
