Sheward TrophyWon By Gale There was keen sailing, good yachtsmanship and closely contested racing when the annual Akaroa harbour race for the Sheward trophy was sailed in light airs during the week-end. A feature of the race was the good performance of Gale (L. G. Holder), which won on handicap and also defeated the redoubtable Tucana on actual racing time. The race, which was sailed In brilliant weather over a course of about 18 miles, resulted on handicap: Gale (T G. Holder) 1, Fin (R. Bam.#) 2. Gazelle (A. France) 3. The open class centre board event provided some spectacular racing and close finishes. Catspaw came through the whole fleet to win on handicap. There were record entries in the P Class event, which also provided some close finishes. Results: — Open class centre board raise: Catspaw (J. Milliken) 1, Kararu (W. Bool) 2. Bimbo (K. Pool) 3. P class: Koko (C. Smith) 1, Swift (G. Warner) 2, Spike (C. Milliken) 3.
