Competition Won By Weedons When the final round of games was played for the Ellesmere SubWe ¥e.tS “ESS&gemerged the winner. This is the third time Weedons has won the was flrst Played tor in the 1906-7 season. (Previous wins were in 1927-28 and 1928-29.) The shield has been won for Weedons more by consistent team work than by individual brilliance. . The players to contribute most have been P. Atken, the young lefthand batsntan who has played some sound innings, and the veteran. C. Chatterton, who has taken many wickets with his medium paced bowling. Irweil, which was level with Weedons until Saturday, was beaten in a close game at Southbridge. Final points for Shield: Weedons 27, Irweil 23, Leeston 20, Dunsandel 18. Southbridge 15. Weedons 119 (T. Watson 35, A. Riordan 16, E. Chatterton 14, C. Chatterton 14. C. Watson 14; B. Free four for 42. P. Boal three for 28, J. Chamberlain two for 29) beat Leeston 98 (P. Chamberlain 33, B. Free 21; J. Meyer four for 16. P. Thompson three for 7) on the first Innings. Southbridge 162 (G. Patterson 43. M. Moorehead 31, A. Freeman 28; M. Heslop three for 44, B. Doak three for 34) beat Irweil 150 (M. Tweedie 33 not out. G. Doak 27; M. Moorehead fouf'for 30, R. Brown four for 71, R. Brears two for 40) on the first Innings.
