Service Station Holiday Takings (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 30. About £3OOO in money and cheques was stolen from the home of Mr A. S. Gufnell, proprietor of a service station in the centre of Paraparaumu, on Wednesday. The money, about £2OOO In notes and £lOOO in cheques, represented the entire takings from the station during the Christmas period, plus £5OO in notes from a furniture shop which Mr Gurnell had agreed to keep in safety for the shop’s owner. The money was kept in a strongbox under the bed at the Gurnell home, which is situated behind the service station which is next door to the Paraparaumu Hotel. ' Mr Gurnell said today that he, his wife, and his 18-year-old son were working at the service station on Wednesday, but there was always someone in the house. “We put our life’s savings into this place and have only been here for nine months,” said Mr Gurnell, the father of four children. “I have managed stations before, but this is the only one I have ever owned. We’ll come right”
