MAGISTRATE’S COURT

TUESDAY (Before Messrs W. J. Baxter and W. A. Calwell, Justices of the Peace.) ASSAULTED WIFE Pleading guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife at their home in Guildford street on December 26, David Feeney, aged 33, a carpet worker, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon. Senior-Sergeant G. M. Cleary said police were called to the house at 5.30 p.m. after a complaint that Feeney had assaulted his wife. After some discussion with the parties the police left, but returned to the house again at 6.40 pm. after a further complaint that Feeney had punched his wife in the face and chest. He was then arrested. Feeney told the police he had been drinking before the incident, said Senior-Sergeant Cleary. REMANDED John Stannard Goodall. 50, a cook, was remanded to January 19 on a charge of assaulting a female on December 26. He was allowed bail at £lOO in his own recognisance, with a similar surety.
