WELLINGTON WINS

Central Routed In 2nd Innings (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 27. The Wellington bowlers J. R. Reid and L. C. Butler routed the Central Districts batsmen at the Basin Reserve today, giving the home side a win by 107 runs, and 10 points in its first Plunket Shield fixture this season. Few could have foreseen what was to follow or that the last eight wickets would produce only 46 runs, when L. B. Reade and D. N. Macleod resumed Central Districts’ second innnigs this morning. Overnight Central Districts were 33 for one.

Both batsmen began confidently but if the runs came slowly the pair had all day to score them. The total reached 83 before the partnership was broken when the stylish Reade lofted an offspinner to J. W. Guy. Reade’s dismissal and Butler’s clever flight variations started the rot. The New Zealand colt and former Wellington representative, B. F. Hastings, stayed only long enough to run a leg bye. Far worse was to follow. Macleod, the Nelson youngster B. Congdon, and K. F. H. Smith all went with the total at 93. Macleod, out one short of his 50, scored his runs with shot's all round the wicket and hit six boundaries in a stay of 145 minutes. The Manawatu representatives. D. D. Beard and B. W. Yuile, carried-the total to 110 for six at lunch but Beard was another Butler victim immediately after the break.

The game lasted only 25 minutes after lunch, the remaining Central Districts batsmen showing belated enterprise, but quickly falling victims to Butler and J. R. Reid.
