PRESS ACCLAIMS TEST TIE

Other Close Wins Recalled

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. Dec. 15. The “Guardian” today acclaimed the exciting finish in the first-ever tie in 33 years of test cricket. The newspaper recalled that the previous closest finish between Australia and the West Indies was Australia’s one-wicket Win in the fourth test of the 1951-52 series in Melbourne.

England and Australia have been involved in three very close finishes: at Manchester in 1902, when Australia won by three runs; at Sydney when Australia had a six-run win over England in the 1884-5 tour; and at the Oval in 1882 when England lost by seven runs.
