WAR PENSION PAYMENTS
Recipients To Gain Slightly
(New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 16.
War pensioners will have a small gain under a change in the payment dates announced today by the Minister in charge of War Pensions (Mr Kinsella).
Earlier this year it was announced that war pensions would be paid every four weeks, instead of once a month. This was to take effect from February 1, 1961. But as February has 28 days this would eventually have created an anomaly, as pensioners would suffer a small apparent loss in pension.
To overcome this difficulty, Mr Kinsella said, payments on the new basis would take effect from March 1, 1961. not February as previously announced. This would result in a small gain to the pensioner.
U.S. Ship Due Today.— The United States naval vessel Private John R. Towle (Captain Knud T, Morgensen) is expected at Lyttelton this morning, from Davisville, Rhode Island, via Panama, on her way to McMurdo Sound.
