Shooter Fined At Hokitika
(New Zealand Press Association) HOKITIKA, December 13.
The sequel to a shooting accident in a remote area of south Westland last' month was the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court in Hokitika today of Edward Joseph Watson, aged 28, a Ministry of Works employee, of Bruce Bay. Watson pleaded guilty before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., to a charge of causing bodily harm to Richard Alexander Wilson, at Doughboy creek, South Westland, on November 9. He was fined £2O.
For the police, Detectjve-Ser-geant B. Wilkinson, of Greymouth, said Wilson was admitted to the Grey Hospital on November 10 suffering from bullet wounds in both legs. Watson admitted he had accidentally shot Wilson, and said he had mistaken him for a deer. For Watson, Mr A. B. Lawson said the accused accepted full responsibility and maintained that the accident was entirely his fault. He had been paying Wilson £55 monthly in lieu of the wages the latter was losing.
