TRUCK FALLS INTO RIVER

Passengers Hurt, Sheep Killed (Wew Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 11. When a truck rolled 58 feet down a bank into the Manganui river yesterday morning the driver’s wife and two of her children were injured and 43 sheep were killed; but the driver and three other of his children escaped virtually unscathed. The driver. Mr P. Brown, of Piopio, managed to climb out of the cab, and succeeded in getting his family out before he ran more than a mile for help. The accident happened 12 miles off the main New Plymouth-Te Kuiti highway along Manganui road. The truck was carting sheep from a Waiwakau station. The Brown family were taken to Piopio for medical treatment. Mrs Brown and two of her daughters. Charmain and Christine, were then taken to Te Kuiti Hospital. Tonight their condition was satisfactory.
