Irwell Increases Its Lead Irwell increased its lead for the Ellesmere Sub-association’s shield on Saturday when it drew with Leeston. M. Heslop was again top scorer with 71 runs, and has scored 434 runs this season. Weedons had a narrow win over Dunsandel in a low-scoring game. P. Buckenham, with six for 25. returned the best bowling figures for the day. The only other bowler to take five wickets was C. Chatterton (Weedons), bowling his off-cutters. Results:— Weedons 54 (P. Aitken 25, C. Tilson 14; P. Buckenham six for 25, M. Frampton three for 29), Dunsandel 47 (A. Brown 20, M. Murray 17; A. Hamilton four for 21, C. Chatterton five for 26) on first innings. Batsmen Score Well At Wellington (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON December 11. The Wellington Plunket Shield batsman A. H. Preston, and the international, J. W. Guy, returned to form in Wellington club cricket on Saturday. Playing for Wellington College Old Boys, the bottom team in the competition. Preston hit up 83 and Guv 60. Other leading scorers in a day in which runs abounded by comparison with previous weeks were the former Nelson representative, I. H. Ching, who scored 104. J. C. Tynan, 80. and G. D. Lane. 51.
