FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.— A complex depression covers the North Island and extends far to the east. A weak ridge of high pressure lies to the south of the South Island. Forecast:— Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh south-easterlies about the Sounds, moderate easterlies predominating elsewhere; cloudy with rain and some isolated heavy showers with thunderstorms especially in the afternoon and evening; little change in temperatures. Outlook: little change. West Coast.—Light to moderate variable winds; rather cloudy with showers at times, especially about the ranges. Outlook: similar conditions. Canterbury.—Moderate easterlies predominating; areas of drizzle and fog about the coast; otherwise cloudy with scattered afternoon showers inland, especially about the ranges; some thunderstorihs likely.
