RENTAL CAR LICENCE

Authority Grants Application Authority to operate a new rental vehicle service with two cars and a light van has been granted to Bryce Duncan Williamson in a reserved decision by the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood). Mr Haywood said residents of the eastern suburbs were entitled to a better share of the rental vehicles and should not be compelled to use bicycles and buses for obtaining and returning rental cars from various city operators. As Williamson had shown there was a demand for the service and had called responsible citizens to support his application the application would be granted, subject to a special condition that Williamson’s premises should be maintained to a standard complying with the requirements of the District Officer of the Transport Department he said. Four parties, Tasman Rental Cars, Mutual Rental Cars Ltd., Gold Band Services Ltd, and Midland Motorways Services Ltd objected to the application. Mr Haywood said that as three of the objectors were on a Dom-inion-wide basis in the rental ear business the granting of a licence on a localised basis would not affect the services given by the objectors.
