BOYS’ BRIGADE CAMP
150 Expected To
Attend
A hike, tabloid sports and a concert on the Saturday evening are some of the attractions planned for the Canterbury Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade's annual camp at Waipara from December 26 to January 4. About 150 boys are expected to attend the camp which will be sited on the south bank of the Wiapera river, 35J miles from Christchurch.
A dam for swimming will be built on the first day, Monday, and on Wednesday, campers will hike down the river bed to a picnic lunch at Teviotdale.
Cricket and softball matches will be held between visitors and boys on Saturday, December 31, and the camp concert will be held in the evening. A church parade will be held at the Glenmark church on Sunday. Tabloid sports are planned for the last day Senior campers are expected to build a bivouac from natural materials, sleep in It for one night, and construct a bridge capable of carrying the heaviest' camper. During the camp, they will be taken about 25 miles from the camp and be left to walk back, sleeping out .overnight. First-year campers will be instructed in water divining, using a forked willow stick. Tlxird-year campers will be shown distance judging with range finders, how to cook dampers, range craft and how to identify stones.
