ORDER OF ST. JOHN
Annual Inspection Held About 835 members of the Christchurch corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade attended the annual inspection and presentation of awards of the corps held yesterday afternoon. The parade assembled facing the north side of Cranmer square. The band of the Ist Canterbury Regiment under Captain D. I. Williams played during the parade. •
The parade was inspected by the district commissioner for Canterbury and the West Coast (Mr G. L. Falck) and the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning). Miss L. P. Butler, the district superintendent in charge of the nursing divisions, accompanied Mr Falck • and Mr Manning during .their inspection of the nursing and nursing cadets divisions, and the senior district superintendent (Mr D. J. Somerville) accompanied them during- the inspection of the ambulance and ambulance cadet divisions.
The. parade was organised and commanded by the corps superintendent (Mr G. H. Dunlop). After the inspection, Mr Falck and Mr Manning spoke, Mr Falck appealing for more members for the brigade. , About 200 persons watched from the footpath, grass, or cars. The weather was fine, with a cool breeze. Mr Manning presented special awards of votes of thanks from the Priory, and the other awards were presented by Mr Falck. Awards presented were: — Priory vote of thanks.—Corps Officer G. J. Hutton; Nursing Member V. I. McCullough. Fourth bar to service medal of the order.—District Superintendent D. J. Somerville. Third bar to service medal of the order.—District Officer J. R. Begg; District Officer A. Dickson; Nursing Member A. D. Woolford; Nursing Member M. Nystram.
