FOR SERVICE OVERSEAS
N.Z. Nurses And Aides (Neu> Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 21. Members of the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps and the New Zealand Women’s Royal Army Corps will be eligible for service abroad under a plan approved by the Army Board. Two nursing sisters, and two nursing aides, and one officer and two other ranks of the N.Z.W.RA.C. are being chosen, but an extension of the scheme is envisaged. The nurses will serve at the Taiping headquarters of the New Zealand Battalion. They will leave early next year and will serve overseas for 12 months. The three N.Z.W.R.A.C. members will serve as clerical workers with the headquarters of the New Zealand Army force in Singapore. They will pro I'-’’" 1 '-’’" leave New Zealand next August or September after training. They will serve overseas for a year. The Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly) said today that the decision to have women serve with the Army overseas would prove a welcome - one. It was fitting that New Zealand nurses should, if possible, look after New Zealand soldiers in hospital, while at the same time gaining experience in tropical medicine.
