BRITISH BASE IN KENYA
Africans Demand Closure (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NAIROBI, Nov. 20. Britain’s £3,500,000 strategic military base at Kahawa, Kenya, must go, according to a policy statement issued today by Mr Tom Mboya’s Kenya African National Union.
The African party said it would not allow any form 'of military base to be established in Kenya in line with its policy of non-alignment with either East or West, American Associated Press said.
“The Kenya African National Union condemns the fact that the British chose to ignore African protestations when they started to establish the British military base at Kahawa.” The party added that it would press for the immediate closing down of the base.
The policy statement, which is also the party’s election manifesto, promised that when in power the party would get rid of all provincial commissioners, district commissioners and chiefs and replace them with “a democratic and representative system.”
