STRYCHNINE IN BODY
Special C. 1.8. Inquiry
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, November 21. Chief Defective-Inspector W. R. Fell and several other detectives from Wellington are investigating the discovery of a quantity of strychnine in samples removed from the body of John Connell, aged 72, a former policeman, who died at his home in Riccarton on September 26.
Chief Detective-Superintendent F. N. Aplin, head of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, said this evening that he had sent Mr Fell and several detectives to help the Christchurch police. Mr Aplin said the Wellington detectives would report to him. Their mission had been undertaken merely to put in a thorough investigation and clear up the whole matter.
“Certain aspects wanted close investigation and we are making routine inquiries/’ said Mr Aplin. “At this stage I Cannot tell you anything because we do not yet know whether there is anything suspicious or not.” Detectives of the Christchurch C. 1.8. began their inquiries on the afternoon of November 14. Mr Fell and his team arrived in Christchurch at the week-end.
